What is VoIP?

Voice over the Internet (VoIP) is the “transmission of voice communications and multimedia sessions over Internet Protocol (IP) networks, such as the Internet. Other terms frequently encountered and often used synonymously with VoIP are IP telephony, Internet telephony, voice over broadband (VoBB), broadband telephony, and broadband phone.” General Communications has been deploying VoIP technology for many years and we have successfully installed sites all over the globe, including sites in Canada, The UK, the Figi Islands, South America, India and China.

VoIP Technology

Native VoIP

Native VoIP phone systems connect multiple offices through a single maintenance portal. Headquarters, regional offices, and remote workers can all be seamlessly integrated and fully connected no matter where they are.

VoIP Enabled

VoIP Enabled phone systems were developed by legacy brands, such as Toshiba, that were selling phone systems prior to the advent of VoIP technology. These systems work in the same way as Native VoIP systems. The only difference is that they were developed from pre-existing telephone technology.

The Flexibility of IP Telephony (VoIP)

IP Telephony Applications by design offer greater flexibility to help you reduce operating costs, increase business revenue, and shorten the window of payback of acquisition.

Whether you have a legacy system that you need to adapt to an IP environment or you are able to start fresh, we use our experience gained from over 30 years in business to discuss how we can provide an appropriate strategy to solve the logistical and financial objectives of your organization.

IP Networking

As telecommunications manufacturers develop the ability to convert voice to data, the natural progression is to use a common data network to carry both voice and data between an organization’s sites. No longer is it always necessary to establish a dedicated voice circuit between locations. Carrying voice as data is called “Voice over IP” or VoIP. The use of IP networks brings tremendous cost and productivity advantages to a wide range of businesses. Regardless of the size of your organization, if you have employees who work from home or from remote or regional offices, you can significantly reduce telecommunications costs by rerouting interoffice traffic over your LAN/WAN.
